June 2013: Knocknamanagh Old School Trust
Redevelopment of Old School Building, Minane Bridge, Cork. The works comprised Phase 2 of the construction of an extension to the old school house and all ancillary works. The extension comprised a new hall, link block and ancillary structure. The hall connected to the phase 1 extension via a glazed link. The existing old school house was in use throughout the construction period.
The Old School building in Tracton was on the brink of demolition as it stood overlooking the village, but there was a group in the Tracton Community that had different ideas and thanks to the initial drive from a group called the Knocknamanagh Old School Tracton (KOST) got the building back from the edge, to the wonderful facility it is today.
“The building had no land, it stood on its own so there had to be a purchase of land and locally the people from KOST and the community made donations to the fund raiser to save the school and locally we had some very generous anonymous donations from people in the community” said Bridget Twomey Chairperson of Tracton Community Council.
