MMD Construction Completes Block 9 at Haulbowline Naval Base

MMD Construction is proud to have handed over Block 9 at Haulbowline Naval Base following the conservation and refurbishment of this historic building for the Department of Defence.

Originally a Victualling Store, the protected 1,800m² building has been transformed into modern office space for Naval Service personnel. The works brought new facilities and building services into the structure while preserving its historic character.

A particular highlight was the repair of the building’s historic pitch-pine roof trusses. Our in-house workshop used sound timber salvaged from Block 9 to create bespoke inserts for the trusses, retaining as much of the original structure as possible and giving the salvaged material a new purpose within the building.

Delivering the project within a fully operational naval base called for careful planning and close coordination throughout. It is rewarding to see the building given a new purpose and a future as part of Haulbowline.
