For the third day of Construction Safety Week, MMD Construction organised a "Mental Health Awareness" talk at the BioMarin Construction Site. MMD Construction EHS Manager, Damian Harrington organised a tool box talks that covered the following topics;

With the construction industry being predominantly male, Wednesday’s ‘Positive Mental Health’ Day takes on even more importance as young to middle aged men are the very demographic that accounts for most male suicides in Ireland - of the 10 suicides in Ireland each week, 8 of them are men

Further understanding and awareness of suicide and mental health amongst Irish men. Action is needed to help accomplish this objective. Irish men can be reluctant to discuss their problems and emotions with their colleagues and friends

The workplace is a particularly influential environment, given the large amount of time people spend at work and in the company of their work colleagues.  No industry in Ireland is as male dominated as the construction sector

According to the latest Quarterly National Household Survey from the Central Statistics Office, of the 116,700 people working in the industry, 108,300 are male. This means that men represent 93% of those employed in the industry

Eating well and incorporating exercise into your daily routine form the basis of what is essentially mental wellness

Encourage more communication about suicide and mental health on construction sites and amongst construction workers 
The importance of talking things out and being comfortable about opening up about what’s troubling you and impacting on your life
