Preparing for the Future of Work in Construction

As the construction industry navigates rapid technological change, a key question emerges: How do we train for jobs that don’t yet exist? This was the core theme explored at the Southern Construct Summit 2025, hosted by the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) in Cork.

Bringing together leaders in education, training, and industry, the event addressed how Ireland’s construction sector can proactively equip its workforce for an increasingly digital, inclusive, and future-oriented landscape.

A Forward-Looking Panel on Future Skills

Our very own Amanda Lennox, Human Resource Manager at MMD Construction, was delighted to join a panel alongside:

  • Denis Leamy, Chief Executive, Cork Education and Training Board

  • Dr Sean McSweeney, Dean of Engineering, Munster Technological University (MTU)

  • Dr Mary Moloney, Lecturer in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, (MTU)

Together, the panel explored how the education and training ecosystem can evolve to support the next generation of construction professionals. Key themes included:

  • The integration of AI and digital transformation into education and on-site practices

  • The importance of lifelong learning and micro-credentialing for our workforce

  • Embedding inclusion and gender diversity in apprenticeships and training pathways

  • Preparing students and employees for jobs that have not yet emerged, by focusing on adaptability, digital literacy, and cross-disciplinary skills

MMD Construction’s Commitment to Future Skills

At MMD Construction (Cork) Ltd, we are proud to play our part in shaping the future of our industry. We are:
