MMD Construction Toy Appeal – A Proud Moment of Community and Teamwork 🎄

MMD Construction would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported the fantastic Toy Appeal this year. The appeal ran over several weeks throughout November and December, with colleagues continuing to give right up to the final handover day. Whether people donated toys or gifts, contributed financially, or volunteered their time, every action made a meaningful difference.

All funds raised were used to purchase additional toys and essential items to complement the generous donations received, ensuring a wide and inclusive range of gifts for patients. The items collected were donated to the children’s wards at Cork University Hospital, as well as to the elderly wards at the Mercy University Hospital and the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital.

We owe a huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone across our sites and at head office. From collecting donations and sorting and packing items, to organising logistics, volunteering on the handover day, and supporting the appeal in countless other ways, the commitment and goodwill shown across MMD brought this initiative to life. It truly was a team effort, and we could not have done it without you.

The handover day itself was a highlight. Volunteers departed together from head office in a Garda-escorted convoy, forming a full festive procession supported by the Defence Forces, An Garda Síochána, the Fire Service, and the Army Band. The route included stops at the South Infirmary and the Mercy, before a very special arrival at Cork University Hospital, where a Santa’s Grotto had been set up at the main entrance. The music, the crowds, and the sense of occasion made for a truly uplifting and memorable day.

The event was attended by Taoiseach Micheál Martin, who described the day as “truly heartwarming,” noting that bringing joy to young patients at Christmas is a powerful reminder of the kindness and solidarity that define our community.

We also wish to thank the Kinsale & District Lions Club, hospital staff, emergency services, the Army Band, and the many MMD Construction volunteers who brought so much energy to the day, including those who took on festive roles as Santa, Mrs Claus, the Grinch, and the elves.

Finally, thank you to our colleagues, subcontractors, and clients who supported the appeal. Small actions from many people added up to something truly special. We are incredibly proud of our team and look forward to continuing this wonderful tradition next year.

As the year comes to a close, everyone at MMD Construction would like to wish our employees, clients, partners, and wider community a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy, and successful New Year.
