Finalists at the ICE Awards 2026

MMD Construction is proud to announce that the Cork University Hospital Helipad, Link Bridge and Paediatric Road Realignment Works project has been named a finalist at the Irish Construction Excellence Awards 2026 in the Civil Engineering Project Value €10m to €20m category. This marks the third consecutive year that MMD Construction projects have been nominated as finalists for the ICE Awards.

Delivered by MMD Construction as Main Contractor and PSCS, the project involved the construction of a fully compliant helipad connected directly to the Emergency Department via a prefabricated link bridge, together with significant Paediatric Road Realignment works and utilities upgrades within the CUH campus. The works were carried out within a fully operational acute hospital environment, requiring careful planning and coordination to ensure hospital operations and emergency access were maintained at all times.

The project restores helicopter access to CUH for the first time in over 20 years and significantly enhances the hospital’s emergency response capability. By enabling direct helicopter transfers to the Emergency Department, the facility helps reduce patient transfer times for critical emergency cases across the region. Alongside the helipad development, the Paediatric Road Realignment works improved campus circulation and upgraded critical infrastructure to support future hospital expansion.
