Environmental, Health and Safety Assistant Manager

MMD Construction are seeking to recruit an experienced Environmental, Health and Safety Assistant Manager. This role with report directly to the EHS Manager. The Role of the EHS Assistant Manager will be to guide, support and advise Graduates and Project/Site Managers and other relevant personnel on the implementation and continuous improvement of MMD Construction systems and standards in accordance with the MMD Construction Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems. The successful candidate will be required to work at the MMD Main Office and various sites.

Duties:

  • The primary role will be to create, support and manage a structured MMD Safety Graduate Programme.
  • As the dedicated mentor you will manage and develop a bespoke training plan to support all graduates on the programme.
  • Develop and mentor graduates to achieve maximum effectiveness in their roles and empower them to develop the vital skills and competencies needed for a lasting career with us.
  • Develop, motivate and retain our graduates whilst engaging and progressing new skills and knowledge through a combination of on-site and project-specific experience.
  • Work effectively with the safety graduates including assigning them to particular projects as per programme, ensuring that the site is confirming to the safety management systems.
  • Assist in the tracking, monitoring and reporting of performance in relation to programme.
  • Work effectively with the Project Manager and Construction Team with the implementation of the Integrated Management System
  • Provide information, advice and support to site management teams and all employees on all aspects of EHS issues
  • Manage Health and Safety on-site within the scope of the management system as per annual leave and business needs. Actively interacting with on site management team members, alway practicing good teamwork, in support of day-to-day operating requirements
  • Work with Management in the development, delivery, implementation and maintenance of specific SHEQ policies, SOP’s and procedures.
  • Assist with the development of Risk Assessment & Method Statements, EHS project and documentation support, Emergency drills etc.
  • Provide assurance to the project management team that risks are being managed effectively.
  • Review Preliminary H&S Plans and supporting project documentation prior to projects commencing in order to develop Construction S&H Plans, CEMP’s, Traffic Management Plans and Stakeholder Management Plans etc.
  • Ensure sub-contractor safety documents are managed and available on site, relevant and in accordance with best practice and current legislation
  • Assist in the audit process of our Integrated Management System (OSHAS 18001, ISO 9001 & ISO 14001), Safe T Cert and CIRI.
  • Support the EHS Manager with any other duties when required.

Qualifications/Experience

  • BSc in Health and Safety/Higher Diploma SHWW/ Diploma SHWW
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Word, Publisher, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Safe Pass and Manual Handling
  • Construction experience is essential
  • Leadership experience is essential
  • 5 years experience essential
