Cobh Railway Station
Client: Cobh Maritime Development Ltd
MMD Construction were the selected contractors for the refurbishment of the Cobh Railway Station. Tasked with developing a disused and rundown storage area, which was then developed into an open plan area that would occasionally host exhibitions, including associated light administration duties and toilets. Features of the restoration include the following:
Construction of a new floor
Demolition of the exisiting internal walls and partitions
Restoration of original floor tiling
Installation of heating
The extent of the development is 247m2.
The development also includes the installation of 43m of 1.2m high paladin fencing to separate the exhibition space from the existing railway platform.
Works were carried out in a live railway environment. Since this was a live environment work had to be done to the highest health and safety standards. The refurbishment of the site has greatly benefited the Cobh area and has helped boost their tourism sector.
