What Our Clients Have Said
We confirm MMD Construction (Cork) Ltd., were appointed by the Department of Education and Skills as Main Contractor for the construction of a major extension to Scoil Nicolais at Frankfield, Grange, Co. Cork. The works comprised of a pair of two-storey wings, totalling sixteen new classrooms, a large extension to the existing GP Hall, together with link corridors and phased tie-ins to the existing Primary School. There was a phased removal of the existing prefabricated accommodation for sixteen classrooms on the tight suburban site, which now and during the works totals 32 classrooms and 1000 children.
The contract was a Type 3 project which is reflective of the complexity of the existing conditions. The project was won under a restricted procedure. The contract value is in the order of €4,500,000 excl. VAT.
The day-to-day management of the project was carried out by Mr. Jamie Fitzgerald (on-site Contracts/Site Manager) who was instrumental in delivering this project. Mr. Cormac Smith (Contract Director), Mr Damien Harrington (Safety Officer/PSCS), Mr. James Lynch Project QS) and the entire team at MMD Construction provided a professional and friendly service. Also of particular note, MMD Construction worked proactively with the Design Team, and with the school to deliver this building.
As Project Architect and Employers Representative, I am happy to give a positive reference for MMD Construction for an excellent performance under this contract. The project was completed in November 2014 ahead of schedule (a rarity in my experience) and to an exceptionally high quality within the construction budget and under enormous pressure that the construction industry is experiencing at present.

“The project was completed in a live hospital environment and MMD Construction’s approach to the project ensured that it was completed safely… Infection control is the utmost importance during construction and it is therefore critical the contractor abides by the Infection Control guidelines. MMD achieved this on each occasion.”

"Youghal Clock Gate is a Protected Structure and a National Monument located over the main street and traffic flows under the masonry arch, which forms the base of the tower. MMD Construction were the main Contractor for the project which included re-pointing or rendering of external masonry with natural hydraulic lime based mortar, re-covering the cupola with copper and sundry other works.
The project represented a significant health & safety challenge given that all works were being carried out over the public thoroughfare. External scaffolding had to bridge the main street at two locations, pedestrian access had to be maintained immediately beside the tower and there were adjoining properties in close proximity. MMD managed the associated risks with traffic and adjoining properties very well throughout the project and maintained good relations with these property owners throughout.
I found MMD Construction and in particular, Project Director, Cormac Smith and Project Manager, Brandon Duarte, to be fair and reasonable to deal with throughout the project, responsive in all communications and facilitated the smooth running of the project. The work carried out by MMD Construction was off good standard, with effective site supervision throughout. I would be happy to work with MMD again and look forward to doing so in the future."
